Imagine a family or individual transitioning from a temporary shelter to their new permanent home. Now, imagine the harsh reality confronting them—no beds, kitchen table, chairs, or sofa—none of the items that make a house a home.

Bridging AZ provides essential furniture to families in our community that do not have the resources to purchase such items. Bridging is the first and only Furniture Bank in Arizona dedicated to “bridging the gap” from empty rooms to a comfortable home.

The Furniture Bank began as a vision turned reality after Jim Piscopo, a licensed contractor, recognized an essential need while volunteering at two Phoenix-area domestic violence shelters. He realized families transitioning into homes of their own had no available resources to receive basic household items and furniture. Piscopo saw a need for an organization that would ease life-transition trauma by providing access to basic furniture to individuals, families and the elderly affected by domestic violence, substance abuse, learning disabilities, loss of a spouse, or hard times.
Witnessing this need first hand Jim and his wife Donna felt a ministry call and took it further than most people would have ever imagined. In 2004, they gave up their jobs and sold their fully paid for home to provide initial funding for Bridging AZ Furniture Bank. Four years later Bridging is partnered with over 25 social service agencies including Southwest Human Development to bring furniture and household items into the homes of those working towards achieving a better life.

In the past 2 years Bridging has given away over 100,000 items to families in need

Every family is qualified by a casemanager from one of our partnering agencies.
